Ontario Hunter Education Course (OHEC)
Hunting Outdoors Card

An H1 Outdoors Card permits the cardholder to hunt with all methods permitted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.
An H2 Hunting Outdoors Card permits the cardholder to hunt with all methods permitted under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act except guns.

OHEC Weekend Courses
The Ontario Hunter Education Course (OHEC) is conducted on one weekend with class times from 8:30am to 5:30pm on Saturday and 8:30am to 12:00 noon on Sunday. This special 10 hour course is for CFSC & exam graduates only, and qualifies graduates for an H1 Hunting Outdoors card.
Non CFSC graduates, and/or those choosing to hunt with archery equipment only, are required by the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) to complete an additional 2.5 hours of firearms training, for a total of 12.5 hours of training. This 2.5 hours of additional training is conducted on the Friday evening from 6:30pm to 9:00 pm. prior to the weekend of the OHEC course. This qualifies graduates for an H2 hunting outdoors card.
NOTE: Those non CFSC graduates who already hold a PAL however, once completing the 12.5 hours of training, do qualify for an H1 hunting outdoors card.
OHEC exams are conducted immediately following the completion of the course on Sunday. Alternative exam arrangements are available, but an additional exam fee will then apply.
The OHEC is designed to assist you to develop the knowledge and skills essential to become a safe and ethical hunter and to:
- Maintain and promote safe hunting.
- Instill an appreciation for the natural world, its many processes and the role hunters play.
- Cultivate self-discipline, self-reliance, responsible behaviour and good citizenship among hunters.
- Develop a basic knowledge of the biology and management of wildlife resources.
- Teach ongoing hunter responsibilities to participate in and contribute to wildlife management
- and protection processes.
- Develop attitudes & standards of behaviour that respect the wildlife being hunted.

International Bow Hunting Course (IBEP)
While not mandatory in Ontario at this time, completion of the IBEP is legally required in many US states and also New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec prior to bow hunting in those jurisdictions.
The goal of the IBEP is to provide bowhunters, both experienced and new, with the basic fundamentals of safe bowhunting and to instill the highest ethical standards that respect the wildlife being hunted.
The IBEP is offered as a one day course, from 8:30am to 4:30pm which includes exam time.
The successful student will then recieve their IBEP card in the mail.
